Kate Steinitz 1961-1975 |
| Everyone who knew her notes her curiosity, ability to enjoy whatever came her way, and her contagious sense of fun. Her mind never closed; she maintained a youthfulness of attitude to the very end. Everything she had was to be savored; if food or drink stained one of the works of art she owned while she was in the process of examining it, no harm was done. Art, life were to be felt, experienced, enjoyed, not shielded and preserved outside the realm of physical handling. A note in the Steinitz archive dated April 1, 1971, records some of this attitude. "Tomorrow again trivial chores and objects would dominate me; daylight will confirm the victory of time absorbing trivialities over the mind, preventing creative playfulness, preventing escapades in the fertile and refreshing land of nonsense, fantasy and talent. Blessed are the real poets, Hans Arp, Schwitters who respect their own talent and thus survive their death..." |
