Kate Steinitz Guest Book  2

The Guestbook started New Year's Eve, 1921. A friend of Kurt Schwitters (who was visiting the Steinitz family flat) wrote:  “Art is anarchy; art is free.”

Entered New Year's Eve 1920 to 1921. Pictured is  a roast rabbit. Dr. Kangro (whose personal icon was a kangaroo) said that he liked the rabbit, but that the crispy skin on the chicken was better!

5/27/1921    Beth from Berlin drew Ilse (Kate's oldest  daughter.)  She had become Kate's friend while they were students in art school.  Her life had an early and tragic end.  Beth killed herself rather than let the Nazis find her.

"The Cow", an illustration from the book Peter, The Rooster,  which Kate and Kurt Schwitters created together.

6/19/22 Collage von Hannah Hoech

Hannah was part of the Berlin "DADA".  She probably was the only woman included within this Berlin group.
